Employees in grades 11-20 working at the Secretariat organised a procession in front of the Secretariat today (18 August), putting forward a four-point demand to address long-standing grievances.
The protest began early in the morning, with the employees taking positions and stopping the car of the Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed as it arrived from the Economic Relations Division (ERD). In response, the adviser invited the protesters to his office for discussions.
In a letter addressed to a senior secretary and obtained by TBS, the protesting employees outlined their demands, stating that they have been subjected to various forms of discrimination and deprivation for an extended period. Their four key demands are as follows:

2. The title of all positions in grades 11-16 at the Secretariat should be changed to ‘Secretariat Officer'(Grade 10) and all positions in grades 17-20 should be titled ‘Secretariat Assistant’ (Grade 11).
3. A rationing system should be introduced for permanent employees of the Secretariat, similar to the Ministry of Defense. Additionally, a Secretariat Special Allowance should be provided immediately, along with 100% government housing for permanent employees.
4. The minimum salary scale should be set at Tk20,000, and the previous timescale and selection grade systems should be reinstated immediately.
