Former MP Bahar, city mayor sued on charges of killing youth during protests in Cumilla

A murder case has been filed against former Cumilla-6 MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar, and his daughter city mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchana, and 62 others in connection with the killing of a 20-year-old named Masum Mia during the student protest in Cumilla’s Kotbari area.
The case, which also lists 400 unidentified individuals as suspects, was filed last night (18 August) by a Abdul Hannan at the Sadar South Model Police Station, confirms officer-in-charge of the station, Md Alamgir Bhuiyan.
According to sources, on 4 August, Masum Mia, the son of Shahin Mia from North Rampur in Cumilla’s 22nd Ward, was killed during a clash between students and members of the ruling Awami League and its affiliated organisations, including the Chhatra League, in Nandanpur, located near Kotbari Bishwa Road in Sadar South.
Initially unidentified, Masum’s body was buried as unclaimed, but it was later identified by his relatives through social media.
The primary accused in the case are former MP Bahauddin Bahar and his daughter, fugitive Cumilla city mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchana.
The plaintiff alleges that on 4 August, at around 2pm, students and locals were staging a peaceful protest at Nandanpur Kotbari Bishwa Road under the Sadar South Model police station.
Around 4:20pm, following orders from Bahar and his daughter, Masum Mia was shot and hacked to death, with several others injured during the incident, reads the case statement.
