Cop who said, ‘we shoot, one dies… the others don’t leave, sir,’ is now in police custody

Mohammad Iqbal, the police officer who was seen telling the former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal that he could not disperse the students even after shooting at them during protests led by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, was picked up from his home in Narshingdi last night (19 August).

Iqbal, the deputy commissioner of the DMP Wari zone, is currently in the custody of the detective branch (DB) of DMP, a DB official told TBS.

A video of his conversation had spread on social media during the protests.

“We have to keep shooting to bring down bodies, sir. We shoot, one dies, another gets injured. Only one goes, sir. The rest do not. This is, sir, the biggest cause of concern,” this is how he was informing the former home minister about shooting at the protesters.

The video clip showed several police officers, including the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, standing around the former home minister as Iqbal showed a video of the former minister from his mobile phone.
