Hasina, Quader, Anisul among 75 sued over killing of salon worker in Ashulia


Besides, a journalist has also been accused in the case

A murder case has been filed against 75 individuals including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former Law minister Anisul Haque in connection with the killing of a salon worker during the mass uprising in Dhaka’s Ashulia on 5 August.

The deceased, Zahidul Islam Sagar’s, 28, younger brother Anarul Islam filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court today (20 August).

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Imrul Hasan, told The Business Standard that the court has ordered Ashulia police to register the case within the next three days.

Among those named in the case are former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former Law minister Anisul Haque, former state minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad A Arafat, Awami League lawmaker Saiful Islam, Savar correspondent of ATN News Zahid Hasan Shakil, along with several AL leaders and activists.

Additionally, 100 to 200 unidentified individuals were listed as accused.

Speaking to the TBS, Journalist Zahid Hasan said, “I have no idea how I was made an accused in this case. It’s incomprehensible to me how I could be involved in this murder. This has shocked me.”

According to the case statement, on the day of the incident, around 2pm, AL leaders and activists, including Saiful Islam, attacked Sagar in the Baipail area. Additionally, Yearpur Union Parishad Chairman Shamim Ahmed Bhuiyan allegedly pointed a firearm at Sagar and shot him.

Later, he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where the doctors declared him dead.
