The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will start an inquiry into various allegations, including gold smuggling, against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s deputy press secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan.
This commission took the decision in a meeting held at its head office in Dhaka today (20 August), ACC officials familiar with the matter told The Business Standard.
According to the ACC officials, Khokan was the PM’s deputy press secretary from 18 August 2013 and was allegedly involved in various irregularities and corruption including receiving financial benefits from various business organisations such Max Group and Nagad, smuggling gold and currencies, and illegally conducting VoIP business.
There are also allegations against him of acquiring illegal wealth in his own name and in the name of his family members.
