The in charge of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Mohsin Karim, has resigned in face of protests by the businessmen and shopkeepers of the mall.

The resignation of Mohsin announced this (21 August) afternoon, was met with jubilation by protesting businessmen.

However, the traders continue to press for their 12-point demands, including a reduction in shop rent.

Earlier in the morning, traders and shopkeepers blocked roads near Panthpath and Karwan Bazar in Dhaka, causing severe traffic disruptions.

When the resignation was confirmed, demonstrators began to clear the roads, and traffic flow gradually returned to normal.

The traders had been unhappy by the relocation of mobile shops to the mall’s basement without proper authorisation. They complained of facing difficulties in obtaining licences from government offices as the shops on basement do not have official approval.
