A case has been filed against 1,000 Awami League (AL) leaders and activists, including former city mayors Sadiq Abdullah and Abul Khayer Abdullah.
Among the 1,000 accused are former water resources state minister Jahid Faruk and former district council chairman AKM Jahangir.
The case was filed last night (20 August) by Afroza Khanam Nasrin, the joint convener of Barishal Metropolitan BNP.
Mostafizur Rahman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Kotwali Model Police Station, said that 366 individuals were named in the case, and 700 were listed as unknown defendants.
As per the case document, around 600-700 people armed with pistols, shotguns, cocktails, and various local weapons attacked the BNP office on Barishal’s Sadar Road on 4 August.
“The assailants fired shots, creating panic among the public, followed by vandalism and arson, resulting in damage to furniture, books from the Zia Memorial Library, and other valuable items,” the case document reads.
OC Mostafizur Rahman said the case has been filed and further legal actions will be taken following the law.
