Only MBBS, BDS holders can use ‘Dr’ before their names: Health ministry

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has directed that only individuals who have completed their Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees are allowed to use the title “Dr.”
According to a notification issued by ministry’s Senior Information Officer Shahadat Hossain, the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010, has strictly prohibited the unauthorised use of the “Dr” title.
The notification further clarifies that no official of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council has the authority to amend or modify this law. Only the Parliament possesses such authority.
The ministry has appealed to the public to disregard any rumours or misleading information regarding the use of the “Dr” title.
