All committees of government sports organisations dissolved

With the change in government, a wave of transformations is sweeping across various sectors. Major shifts are also being seen in the sports arena. On Wednesday, Nazmul Hassan Papon resigned as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Just hours later, former national team captain Faruque Ahmed was announced as the new BCB president.

In the wake of these changes, all government sports organizations at different levels across the country have now been dissolved. On Wednesday, the committees of divisional sports associations, divisional women’s sports associations, district sports associations, district women’s sports associations, upazila sports associations, and upazila women’s sports associations were disbanded.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a letter informing the relevant authorities of this decision. In a directive signed by the ministry’s Assistant Secretary, S. M. Humayun Kabir, it was stated that new ad hoc committees must be formed for the mentioned sports organizations. These committees should include prominent and renowned local sports organizers.

The letter also mentioned that the new committees should be approved through the National Sports Council. The formation of upazila sports associations falls under the jurisdiction of the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), while district sports associations are formed by the District Commissioner.

The letter stated, “It is hereby directed to take necessary steps to form ad hoc committees in respective areas, consisting of locally respected and widely accepted sports enthusiasts, sports-related, and esteemed individuals. These committees should then be sent to the National Sports Council for approval.”
