Fresh floods spell disaster for Aman-Aush crops as 2 lakh hectares damaged: Ministry

Amid fresh floods due to torrential rains across the country, a staggering 2,06,828 hectares of Aman and Aush crops in 12 districts were damaged, the Ministry of Agriculture has said.
In a press release today (22 August), the ministry said all agriculture officers’ leave has been cancelled to serve the farmers in the flood-affected areas.
According to the ministry, 138,619 hectares of land with Aman paddy and 68,209 hectares of land with Aush paddy have been affected by the ongoing floods.
Besides the majority of the paddy fields, other vegetables and sugarcane were also submerged in water.
In the media release, the ministry’s Secretary Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mia said, “All are requested to take advice on agricultural matters from their respective upazila agriculture officer. At the same time, all types of leave of agricultural officers have been cancelled.”
The 12 districts where rice fields have been damaged are – Munshiganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Noakhali, Feni, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, and Chandpur.
