A Narayanganj court today (25 August) placed former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on a six-day remand in a case filed over the murder of schoolboy Roman Mia in the district.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Mohsin passed the order after the former minister was produced in court with a 10-day remand plea, said court police inspector Abdur Rashid.

Pro-BNP lawyers and BNP supporters threw eggs at Gazi outside the court premises.

Gazi was arrested from his Shantinagar home yesterday (24 August) night.

According to the case, Roman Mia, 17, son of Anwar Hossain of Chanpara in Narayanganj was shot multiple times while attending a victory procession in the afternoon on 5 August.

When taken to a local private hospital, doctors declared him dead.

On 21 August, victim’s aunt Rina Begum filed a case with Rupganj police station charging former bridge minister Obaidul Quader, former parliament member of Narayanganj-1 constituency Golam Dastgir Gazi, his son Gazi Golam Murtaza, some UP chairmen, leaders and workers of Awami League and the party’s allied organizations and some 50 to 60 unidentified people.

Golam Dastagir Gazi was elected MP from Rupganj-1 constituency in Narayanganj in the 12th parliamentary elections as an Awami League candidate.
