Liton follows Mushfiqur, donates award money to flood victims after Test win
In the wake of Bangladesh’s historic Test victory against Pakistan, wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das has garnered widespread praise not only for his on-field performances but also for his heartfelt gesture off the field.
Following Bangladesh’s landmark win, Das announced that he would donate the prize money from his ‘Energetic Batter of the Match’ award to flood victims in Bangladesh, highlighting his commitment to both his sport and his country.
Liton Das played a crucial role throughout the match, significantly contributing to his team’s success. His impressive performance included six dismissals across both innings and a brisk 56 off 78 balls. His ability to dominate a challenging over from Naseem Shah on the third day further demonstrated his prowess and resilience, adding to the team’s overall performance.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, reflecting on the historic victory, dedicated it to those who lost their lives in the anti-quota student movement, which evolved into a broader uprising against the fascist regime led by Sheikh Hasina. His gesture underscored the team’s connection to their country’s struggles. In a similar spirit of generosity, Mushfiqur Rahim announced his intention to donate the money he earned from his ‘Player of the Match’ award to the flood victims, reinforcing the collective spirit of giving back.
Liton Das, echoing this sentiment, took to his official social media channels to announce his own donation. On his Facebook page, he expressed his pride in the team’s achievement and his sympathy for those affected by the floods. He wrote:
“We’ve defeated Pakistan in a Test match for the first time, and I’m thrilled and proud to have contributed to this victory. However, due to the flood situation in our country, I can’t fully enjoy this win; my heart remains with those back home. I’m announcing that I will donate the prize money I received as the Energetic Player of the Match to the flood victims. To everyone back home, please come forward and help as much as you can. The greater the challenge, the stronger our unity. Bangladesh will not lose.”
