Employees of six state-owned banks will no longer have to pay income tax on their allowances other than basic salary and bonus like government employees.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has granted the facility to Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani bank, Rupali Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank and BASIC Bank employees following applications from these banks.
The NBR issued a notification in this regard signed by NBR Second Secretary Bapan Chandra Das on 22 August.
According to NBR sources, all allowances except basic salary and festival bonus of government employees are tax free.
However, the tax department has been demanding tax on all allowances of the officers and employees of six state-owned banks.
Now, about 40,000 officials and employees of the said banks will get the same benefits as government employees.
