Hasina, Quader among 85 sued over murder in Gazipur

Former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, former minister of Roads and Bridges, and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and 83 others have been accused of killing a local mason who participated in the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in Borobari area under Gacha police station of Gazipur.
Md Insar Ali, 68, father of the deceased who hailed from Juan area of Pirgacha police station of Rangpur district, filed the case demanding justice for the murder of his son.
The deceased’s name is Md Manju Mia, 43. He along with his wife and father used to live in a rented at Moazzem Sarkar’s house on Joybangla Road in Borobari area under Gacha police station of Gazipur city and worked as a mason to earn his living.
Leaders of Central and Gazipur metropolitan Awami League along with leaders of Rangpur Awami League and Jatiya Party have also been made defendants in the case. Notable among them are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, 76, former MP Tipu Munsi, 74, from Pirgacha-Kaunia area of Rangpur, former state minister-MP Mashiur Rahman Ranga, 73, Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League President Azmat Ullah Khan, 70, former state minister Md. Zahid Ahsan Russel, 46, former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asadur Rahman Kiran, 58, Central Bangladesh Chhatra League president Md Saddam, 35, and general secretary Inan, 34. In the case, the first 19 people including Sheikh Hasina have been made accused of instigating the attacks. Another 500/700 people have been made anonymous accused in the case.
Mohammad Ziaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gacha police station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter and said that the case was registered last on 24 August night. In the case, it has been charged with the crime of killing and killing people by shooting and killing people with deadly weapons and beating illegal mobs with serious injuries.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff in the case said Manju Mia came to the street in front of Barabari Bazar under Gacha Thana on the side of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to join the student protests of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. There, as per the instructions of the accused and the unknown accused, the unruly mob armed with guns, pistols, sticks, iron rods, sharp weapons and various deadly indigenous and firearms, illegally attacked people in Kunia Barabari under Gacha Thana on 20 July at approximately 12 noon. They severely injured 25-30 people including Md Manju Mia.
Accused Md Azmat Ullah Khan and Zahid Ahsan Russell were present in person and under their command and direct assistance, at one point the attackers started shooting on students with illegal firearms with the intention to kill.
At that time, on the day of the incident, around 1:15pm, Manju Mia was shot in the left side of the stomach and the bullet exited from the back, reads the statement. As a result, the plaintiff’s son fell on the ground with severe bleeding injuries. Manju Mia’s wife Mosa Rahima Begum, 31, who was informed about the incident, rushed to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment with the help of the students present. Later, the doctor on duty gave first aid and referred Manju Mia to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as the condition was alarming. On the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Manju Mia died at 4:30pm on the day of the incident.
