Fake Facebook accounts masquerading as chief adviser seeking flood aid: Rumour Scanner
The two accounts have the same profile picture as the verified page but ‘Chief’ is misspelt as ‘Cheif’
Fact-checking media organisation Rumor Scanner has found two fake Facebook pages masquerading as the chief adviser asking for financial assistance through mobile banking for the flood victims.
On 23 August, in the verified Facebook page Chief Adviser GOB, a bank account number was posted seeking relief assistance. It was requested to send money to the account number 0107333004093 which was opened at Sonali Bank Corporate Branch in the name of ‘Chief Adviser’s Relief and Welfare Fund’.
In that post as well as subsequent posts made on the verified page, two other pages posted comments seeking financial assistance through bKash and Nagad numbers, according to Rumor Scanner.

Rumor Scanner found that the number posted by the fake pages have been flagged as ‘fraud’ or ‘scammer’ in the True Caller app. When called, the number was found unreachable.
Rumor Scanner concluded that these Facebook pages masquerading as the chief adviser and asking for financial assistance for flood victims through mobile banking are fake and the number belong to scammers.
Although that bKash number belongs to scammers, there is an opportunity to provide financial assistance to the chief advisor’s relief fund through the bKash app. However, there were no separate posts or comments in this regard from the verified Facebook page.
