Tarafder Ruhul Amin resigns as senior vice president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce
Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin, managing director of Saif Powertech Limited, has resigned from his position as senior vice president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
He officially submitted his resignation letter to the Chamber president today (28 August).
In his resignation letter, Ruhul Amin expressed disappointment over the Chamber’s inability to address critical business issues and fulfill long-standing expectations from the business community. He also mentioned that he was unable to contribute as effectively as he had hoped in his role.
Ruhul Amin highlighted that he assumed the role of senior vice president on 7 September 2023, after being elected as a director on 6 August 2023, and then as senior vice president on 8 August 2023.
Despite his best efforts, he felt that the CCCI could not play a meaningful role in resolving business challenges, nor could he provide the level of support he had intended.
He further cited the ongoing devastating floods across the country as a major factor in his decision to step down.
Ruhul Amin stated that the current situation has made it impossible for him to effectively perform his duties and support the struggling business community.
When asked about his resignation, Ruhul Amin told TBS, “The Chittagong Chamber is unable to contribute to addressing the current crisis the country is facing. Business leaders are also struggling to find solutions. These circumstances led me to resign from my position as senior vice president.”
However, Chittagong Chamber president Omar Hazzaz responded by saying that the reasons provided by Ruhul Amin in his resignation letter are unfounded. Hazzaz pointed out that Ruhul Amin attended only one of the seven board meetings held by the current board and was not involved in any of the board’s initiatives.
Hazzaz also mentioned that they are awaiting further instructions from the Ministry of Commerce before taking any action on the resignation.
Ruhul Amin’s company, Saif Powertech, is a key terminal operator at Chattogram port, managing two large terminals, CCT and NCT. Additionally, Saif Powertech is an agent for the Abu Dhabi Port Group in various development projects at the Chattogram Port
