3 cases filed against Hasan Mahmud and his daughter in Ctg


Three separate cases have been filed against 83 people including former foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, his daughter Nafisa Zumaina Mahmud, and brother Ershad Mahmud in Chattogram.

In these cases, 42 other unidentified people have been made accused.

Of the cases, Dr. Hasan Mahmud was made the prime accused in two cases while his daughter was made the prime accused in another case.

Three locals of Rangunia filed these cases with Chattogram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday, magistrate’s clerk Zainal Abedin said.

One of the cases was filed following a complaint lodged by Harun Rashid Prakash of Rangunia where Hasan Mahmud’s daughter Nafisa Zumaina Mahmud, nine named people, and 30 unknown people were accused.

According to the case statement, the accused grabbed land from the plaintiff through intimidation.

In another case filed by Md Osman, a resident of Chandraghona area of Rangunia, 32 people including Dr. Hasan Mahmud were named as accused.

Besides, 12 unnamed individuals were made accused in the case.

In the case, the defendants were accused of extortion. The court ordered Rangunia police station to investigate the case.

A person named Kamal Uddin, a resident of Rangunia, was the plaintiff in another case.

A total of 42 persons including Hasan Mahmud were named as accused in the case where his brother Ershad Mahmud was named as the second prime accused.

The accused were charged with assaulting the plaintiff causing grievous injuries.

Dr Moin Uddin Ahmad, a lawyer of one of the plaintiffs, said that the victim could not file any case earlier against the accused due to their wealth and power.

“Hopefully, the plaintiff will now get justice as a better environment is prevailing in the country,” he added.
