Body of Chhatra League leader found; police suspect suicide

Police have recovered the body of a 22-year-old Eden Mohila College student, identified as Shaila Sikder, from an apartment in the capital’s Lalbagh area.

Her body was sent for autopsy at the Dhaka Medical College morgue this morning (29 August).

Shaila was a second-year student at Eden College and a leader of the college branch of Chhatra League, according to sources.

She was staying as a sublet in that apartment.  

When asked about the condition of the body, Lalbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Ajay Krishna Pal told TBS, “There is a crescent-shaped black mark on Shaila’s neck. Initially, it is suspected that she committed suicide. However, a detailed investigation is underway. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.”
