Hathurusingha eager to discuss future with new BCB leadership
Recently, in an interview, Faruque Ahmed hinted that if he became the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), he would not retain Chandika Hathurusingha as the head coach of the national team.
The former national captain expressed that he does not see a reason to keep Hathurusingha in the coaching role. Even after becoming the BCB president, Faruque has not changed his stance and has stated that his position on the coach remains the same.
Although nothing has been officially communicated by the BCB, it’s likely that Hathurusingha, who is currently in Pakistan, has heard about the president’s remarks. When asked about the matter, Hathurusingha acknowledged that he is aware of the change. However, he is waiting to have discussions with the new BCB leadership to determine his future.
The Test series against Pakistan might mark the final chapter of Hathurusingha’s tenure with the Bangladesh team.
When questioned during a press conference on the eve of the second Test about his feelings during such a time and whether this could be his last series, he responded, “I understand that there are some new faces in leadership. I can sense their perspective. However, I’m waiting for the opportunity to discuss this with them when I return to Bangladesh.”
Under Hathurusingha’s guidance, Bangladesh achieved their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan. Despite the team’s success, Hathurusingha’s future as head coach appears uncertain.
When asked about his current situation and the possibility of this being his last series, he said, “My job is to prepare the team in the best possible way. The hard work we’ve put in over the past few months will continue into the upcoming match. Our focus remains the same.”
Hathurusingha also mentioned that Bangladesh, leading the series 1-0, would continue to play aggressive cricket. He stated, “We will always go with an aggressive approach. Sometimes, plans change based on the conditions. Our preparation hasn’t changed much since the first match. We know our strengths and limitations. We also know the strengths and limitations of our opponents. We think about our strategy considering the pitch, conditions, and everything else.”
