Due to continuous rain, the first day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan in Rawalpindi has been called off. The decision was officially announced shortly after 12 PM local time. No toss could take place on the opening day.
The weather forecast for the first day of this Test was not favorable at all. Rain and a wet outfield initially delayed the toss. Though the umpires scheduled a ground inspection, it couldn’t take place due to the persistent rain.
The match was supposed to start at 11 AM Bangladesh time. However, just before that, AFP reported that both teams’ players were still at their hotel.
The first session was planned to be extended as it was a Friday. But it became apparent early on that play wouldn’t be possible in the first session. When the game was officially called off, about two sessions were still left for the day. However, the rain was so heavy that the umpires saw no chance of play resuming.
Earlier, on the first day of the first Test, despite some rain, 41 overs of play were possible. But today, not a single ball could be bowled.
Bangladesh leads the series after winning the first Test by 10 wickets. Even if this Test ends in a draw, Bangladesh will secure a historic series victory.
