Bangladesh strikes back in afternoon session with key wickets
As the players took their tea break, Bangladesh’s bowlers enjoyed a productive second session, making significant strides in their quest to dominate the second Test.
The afternoon session began with a breakthrough by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who removed Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood for 57. Despite a review attempt, Masood was adjudged LBW, and this wicket broke a solid 107-run partnership with Saim Ayub.
Miraz continued to make an impact by also dismissing Ayub, who was stumped for a well-made 50 after being tempted into an aggressive shot.
Taskin Ahmed also played a key role, dismissing Saud Shakeel for 16, who was bowled out after hitting two boundaries in the over.
Shakib dismissed Babar LBW with a brilliant delivery. The ball, delivered with flight and dip, deceived Babar, who expected it to turn more but instead was beaten by an arm ball that struck his pad.
Despite some missed opportunities, including a tough catch by Zakir Hasan off Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling, Bangladesh’s bowlers kept up the pressure.
Injury concerns arose when Mushfiqur Rahim sustained a shoulder injury while fielding in the 53rd over, requiring him to leave the field for treatment.
At the end of the session, Pakistan’s score stood at 179 for 5 after 54 overs, with Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman at the crease. The tea break offered a moment of respite for both teams, with Bangladesh hoping to maintain their momentum and build on their success from the second session.
