Former minister Tazul Islam’s bank accounts frozen


In a letter sent to the banks, the BFIU said all accounts of Tazul Islam should be frozen for 30 days.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) today (2 September) ordered all banks to freeze the accounts of former Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative (LGRD) minister Tazul Islam.

In a letter sent to the banks, the BFIU said all accounts of Tazul Islam should be frozen for 30 days. 

Furthermore, if there is any locker in his name, its use should also be suspended for 30 days, reads the letter.

Tazul Islam served as the LGRD minister from 2019 to 2024 during the Awami League regime.

He was elected five times as a member of parliament from the Cumilla-9 constituency in 1996, 2008, 2014, 2018, and in 2024.
