Taking five wickets is a matter of pride for the country and the team: Hasan
Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud shared that the team was eager to conclude the match by the end of Day 4 of the second Test against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
The visitors made a strong start, reaching 42 without loss in just seven overs while chasing a target of 185 runs set by Pakistan. Opener Zakir Hasan played some aggressive strokes, but the day’s play was cut short due to bad light and rain. Zakir hit two fours and two sixes, while his opening partner, Shadman Islam, remained cautious, scoring nine runs before the weather disruption ended the session.
“If it hadn’t rained, we would have tried to finish the game today or at least in the first session tomorrow,” Hasan told reporters after the day’s play.
Earlier in the match, Hasan, playing in only his third Test, claimed his maiden five-wicket haul, helping to dismiss Pakistan for 172. This achievement made him the first Bangladesh pacer to take a five-wicket haul against Pakistan. His pace partner, Nahid Rana, also impressed with his best figures of 4-44, while Taskin Ahmed took the remaining wicket. Remarkably, this was the first time in Bangladesh’s Test history that their fast bowlers accounted for all 10 wickets in an innings.
“Whenever a fast bowler is handed the ball, the primary goal is to deliver wicket-taking deliveries,” Hasan said. “Taskin [Ahmed] set the tone, and then Rana [Nahid] came on and was superb. The momentum shifted towards us, and when I got my chance to bowl, I stuck to my process and was able to take wickets.
“It’s a great joy and a matter of pride to take five wickets for your country and team. Playing and winning a Test match is special, and now being in a position to win another makes me very happy.”
