Litton full of praise for Player of the Series Miraz
Litton Das’s exceptional performance in the second Test against Pakistan not only led Bangladesh to a historic series win but also earned him the Player of the Match award.
Coming in at a critical moment with Bangladesh struggling at 26 for 5, Litton’s century proved to be the turning point in the game. His partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was later named Player of the Series, played a crucial role in steering the team out of trouble.
Reflecting on the match, Litton acknowledged the team’s effort, stating, “Big achievement for the Bangladesh team and as part of the team, I’m really happy.” He credited Mehidy for his crucial support during their partnership, saying, “Credit goes to Mehidy (on the partnership), I got hit, so I couldn’t score runs at the start, he just said let’s get some boundaries, kill their momentum and it’ll get easier after the lunch break.”
Despite the initial setbacks in the first innings, where Bangladesh faced significant pressure, Litton emphasised the importance of collective effort. “It’s a team game, you need to bat, bowl and field well, everyone did well, except in that first half of the first innings,” he added.
Litton’s century, his fourth in Test cricket, came at a vital time, reviving not just the innings but also the team’s morale. His partnership with Mehidy, which yielded 165 runs, was instrumental in bringing Bangladesh back into the match after a disastrous start. This century also ended a two-year drought for Litton, making it a significant milestone in his career.
The combination of Litton’s calm under pressure and Mehidy’s support allowed Bangladesh to turn the tide, leading to a well-deserved series victory against Pakistan.
