Bangladeshi Ironman Arafat to compete in Snowman Race
The 2nd Edition of the Snowman Race, an initiative envisioned by His Majesty The King of Bhutan, is now just a month away! This remarkable event aims to spotlight the urgent climate crisis, with a particular emphasis on the challenges confronting highland communities.
Bhutan’s delicate ecosystem is increasingly at risk due to climate change, manifesting in landslides, unpredictable weather patterns, and rapid environmental shifts. Building on the lessons of the first edition, organisers are determined to make this year’s race even more successful, with enhanced coordination and a sharper focus on results, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
The race will kick off in Laya, Gasa on 24th October 2024, coinciding with the second day of the Royal Highland Festival, and conclude with a closing ceremony at the Chamkhar Sports Arena in Bumthang on 28th October 2024.
This year, 18 extraordinary athletes—11 international and 7 Bhutanese—will participate, all committed to championing climate action. Among them will compete Bangladeshi ironman Arafat, who works at Bangladesh Bank-The Central Bank of Bangladesh as Deputy Director. But, Arafat does sports as a hobby.
However, he excelled in the triathlon through the process of personal improvement. He is the first Bangladeshi finisher of the Ironman World Championship and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. As the race draws nearer, excitement is building.
