Police have seized a car owned by S Alam Group from the parking lot of a residential high-rise building at Jamal Khan of Chattogram city.

The car was seized by Kotwali police station officials from a building named ‘Sanmar Building’ around 10pm last night (4 September). The registration number of the car is Chatta-Metro-Gha-11-5344.

There were two more cars in the parking lot, which were moved before police could reach the spot, sources said.

According to police and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) sources, the car is registered under the name of Sonali Logistics, a subsidiary of S Alam Group. The registration includes the address of a building owned by S Alam Group at the city’s Asadganj area.

Contacted, Officer In-Charge of Kotwali police station Obaidul Haque said, “A car owned by S Alam group has been seized from a building in Jamal Khan area based on a tip off.”

Meanwhile, BNP’s Kotwali unit President Monjurul Alam Chowdhury lives in one of the flats of the building from where the car was seized.

When asked about the incident, Monjurul said, “I don’t know who had kept S Alam’s car in our parking lot. I live in this building like everyone else.”

On the evening of 29 August, a video became viral on social media in which it was seen that 14 luxury cars owned by S Alam group were being moved from a factory in Kalurghat area.

Involvement of some BNP leaders were found in that video, based on which  BNP’s Chattogram South unit Convener Abu Sufian, Senior Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam and another person were suspended from their posts.

Besides, the convening committee of BNP’s Chattogram South unit has been dissolved by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Prior to that, BNP’s Standing Committee member and former state minister for transport Salahuddin Ahmed faced backlash from the public after attending an event in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar while travelling in a car owned by S Alam Group, for which he apologised later.
