Former directors demand corruption investigation from BCB President
On the very day he was elected as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Faruque Ahmed spoke about the corruption that had been ongoing within the organization for the past 12 years.
Though this process is still underway, a group of former directors has already met with him, demanding an investigation into the corruption within the BCB. After the meeting, one of the directors also discussed their forced resignation with the media.
These former directors have long been involved in cricket administration but have been away from the board for many years.
A delegation of directors who served at various times between 2001 and 2005 visited the BCB office earlier today. They held a meeting with BCB President Faruque, which was also attended by new BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
During the meeting, the BCB president listened to the opinions of the former directors, one of the main points being the demand for a corruption investigation. Faruque also shared his plans with the former directors during the discussion.
Those present at the meeting included former vice-president Shah Nurul Kabir Shaheen, ex-directors Kazi Mohiuddin Bulbul, Rafiqul Islam, Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan, Shafiqul Islam, Shahiduzzaman Shahid, Kayyum Chowdhury, Md. Zahid Hossain, Asaduzzaman, and Abdul Majid, a member of the Sports Development Council.
After the meeting, former director Kayyum Chowdhury spoke to the press, demanding an investigation into the 17 years of corruption at the BCB.
He stated, “There has been widespread corruption in the cricket board over the last 17 years. We were an elected board, and we were forced to resign. Since then, those in charge have engaged in rampant corruption. We’ve asked the current president to publish a report on the board’s corruption. We want a proper investigation into how such corruption was possible.”
Shah Nurul Kabir Shaheen added, “I played cricket, I’ve been a cricket organizer, and I still am. We cannot detach ourselves from cricket. We have expressed our willingness to fully support the BCB president.” Mohiuddin Bulbul echoed similar sentiments, saying, “At one point, we had to leave the cricket board. But as organizers, we are here on behalf of the Sports Development Council to show our support for this board. We will continue to support the development of the game in the future.”
