In a shocking incident, a young man was hacked to death in Daudkandi, Cumilla. The attack took place on 7 September, in the village of Olanpara, under Gauripur Union. The victim, 30-year-old Mohiuddin, was a painter by profession and the son of Rafiqul Islam from Olanpara village.
After the murder, another young man was seen walking with the severed hand of the victim in one hand and a machete in the other. This disturbing scene was captured on CCTV footage, which has since gone viral on social media.
According to eyewitnesses, Romen Barua, in charge of the Gauripur police outpost, stated that Mohiuddin was on his way home from Gauripur Market when a group of assailants attacked him and fled. Locals rushed him to Gauripur Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Barua suggested that the murder might be related to drug issues, but a thorough investigation is needed to confirm the motive. The identities of those involved in the attack are still unknown. The body has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Daudkandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidullah Pradhan revealed that Mohiuddin had six criminal cases against him. They have identified the young man who was seen carrying the severed hand, along with two others.
A suspect named Yasin Ahmed Babu, a resident of Gauripur, has been arrested in connection with the case, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the man who fled with the severed hand.
