Two workers of the Cumilla Export Processing Zone were killed after a covered van ran them over in front of the EPZ gate last night (8 September).
The accident happened outside the gate at Yasin Market area in Cumilla Sadar (South) upazila around 9pm.
The deceased were workers of a factory in the EPZ, who have been identified as Hasan Mia, 24, son of Majnu Mia from Tangail’s Narunda area and Masum Hossain, 29, son of Humayun Hossain from Khulna’s Banishanta area.
“The workers were leaving the EPZ on a motorcycle once their shifts were over. They died on the spot when a covered van rammed into them from behind”, said Kabir Hossain, officer in-charge of the EPZ police outpost.
“We’ve seized the covered van. The bodies have been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital,” Kabir added.
