Unauthorised students asked to vacate RU halls
Unauthorised students have been asked to vacate the residential halls in Rajshahi University (RU) to restore discipline in the residential facilities along with establishing congenial atmospheres.
The decision to free the students’ dormitories from unauthorised occupations has been taken in a meeting with the hall provosts at the conference hall of the administrative building today (10 September).
Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib chaired the meeting.
The meeting also decided that the students from now on will be given seats in the halls on the basis of specific guidelines.
VC Prof Saleh Naquib assured the provosts of taking necessary measures for improving the environment and discipline in the halls so that the students feel comfortable.
Meanwhile, the academic activities of RU will resume on tomorrow (Wednesday) following an unscheduled closure of around two months.
Prior to this, residential halls reopened today.
The decision to reopen the halls was taken in an emergency meeting of the syndicate, the highest policy-making body of the university, held at the lounge of the vice-chancellor (VC) with VC Prof Abu Saleh Naquib in the chair on Sunday evening.
Accordingly, the departments will restart their scheduled classes and examinations simultaneously.
Apart from this, the admission process in first-year honours classes in the 2023-2024 academic years which remained suspended at present will resume within the shortest possible time. Classes for the new students will start from September 22.
The academic activities of the university remained suspended since 1 July as the teachers had launched their work-absent programme to press home their demands for the cancellation of the universal pension scheme policy.
