A Dhaka court today (11 September) placed ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on four-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Sumon Shikder in capital’s Badda area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order as police produced Tawfiq before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.
Detective Branch (DB) of police detained Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury from capital’s Gulshan area yesterday (10 September).
Later, he was shown arrested in the case, despite his name not being included in the First Information Report (FIR).
Sumon Shikder, 31, was killed in police firing beside Fuji Tower in Badda area on 19 July. His mother Masuma Begum filed the case against 179, including Sheikh Hasina.
