The arrested were identified as Mizanur Rahman, 25, and Nizam Uddin, 31, both sons of Nurul Hoque Chowdhury hailing from Barauthan Union of Karnaphuli upazila.
Confirming the arrest inspector (Investigation) of Karnaphuli police station Mehedi Hasan said, “Mizanur was arrested at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport by immigration police while attempting to flee to Dubai after killing his father around 5am on Thursday.”
“Nizam Uddin was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8am”, he added.
“Both Mizanur and Nizam are accused of brutally hacking their father, Nurul Haque Chowdhury, 65, to death at their home in Barauthan union of Karnaphuli upazila in the district, on Wednesday evening,” said Hasan.
According to locals, Mizanur and his brother Nizamu Uddin tied his father’s hands and feet before committing the murder. After the incident, Mizanur and Nizam went into hiding.
Locals revealed that the deceased, Nurul Haque, had spent many years living abroad and had returned to Bangladesh recently. There were reports of ongoing family disputes, particularly between Nurul Haque and his wife. It is also learned that Nurul Haque had sold two decimals of land prior to the incident, which police suspect could have been the motive behind the murder.
