BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon party leaders and activists to stand firm against what he termed as “attacks by hyenas,” a veiled reference to the Awami League.
Claiming AL people killed Md Shaukat Ali Didar, sports affairs secretary of the central Swechhasebak Dal, in an attack on the unit’s President SM Jilani’s convoy in Gopalganj’s Gunapara area yesterday (13 September), the BNP leader said, “We must stand strong and resist the attacks of these hyenas.”
Fakhrul made the remarks during an event today (14 September) at the Central Shaheed Minar, organised by the party to honour those who were killed in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
He further said, “Even though the fascist Hasina-led government has fallen due to the mass uprising, the defeated forces’ collaborators are still attempting to create chaos in the country. They are involved in deep conspiracies.
“They [AL men] are continuing their plots in various ways to create divisions among us,” he added.
Fakhrul urged party leaders not to fall into the traps set by the conspirators.
He expressed high hopes for the interim government, saying, “The people’s expectations are high from this government. We hope that it will provide a level playing field for elections, allowing us to establish a truly democratic state and society.”
The BNP secretary general also demanded compensation for those who were injured or killed over the past 16 years by the then ruling party men and government agencies.
