Why was Tamim present at the Cricketers’ meeting? BCB President explains
On Tuesday evening, Faruk Ahmed held a meeting with several national team cricketers at the BCB office. The primary discussion revolved around the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players’ payments.
Notably, Tamim Iqbal, who has been out of the national team for a while, was present at the meeting, raising questions about his presence. Today, the BCB President provided an explanation.
The Bangladesh team received a bonus following their historic series win against Pakistan. At an event held at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital today, the players were handed their bonuses. Following the event, Faruk addressed the media, where he was asked about Tamim’s presence at the meeting.
The BCB President clarified that since becoming the board’s chairman, he hadn’t had a chance to sit with the players. As a result, the cricketers wanted to meet with him, and Tamim was invited to the meeting. Faruk explained, “Tamim was there. Since I became BCB President, I hadn’t had the opportunity to sit with the players like this. They came to see me.”
In response to the curiosity surrounding Tamim’s presence, the BCB President reminded everyone that Tamim has not retired yet. He posed a question to the journalists, “He came as a cricketer, right? Has he retired?
Faruk also mentioned that the players had some suggestions during the meeting, saying, “Given the current challenging times, we discussed how our leagues, including the BPL, can proceed as planned. The players had some suggestions, and we discussed what might be possible.”
Regarding the bonus distribution and today’s event, the BCB President added, “Today was a BCB-hosted event. We had invited the Sports Advisor. He had already met the team after the Pakistan tour, where the Chief Advisor was also present. He had requested a special meeting today because tomorrow the team is heading to India for an important series. That’s why we organised this event.
The players will donate a portion of their bonus to aid flood victims. Faruk commented, “We have to keep in mind that we are facing many challenges at this time. The floods just passed, and over 20,000 students and people are struggling. We sympathise with all of them. That’s why the captain has said they will donate a portion of their bonus.”
