A case was filed today (15 September) against 36 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina over the killing of Dhaka Times reporter Mehedi Hasan while covering anti-discrimination student movement in capital’s Jatrabari area.
The other prominent accused in the case are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Huq Inu, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibur Rahman, Harun-Or Rashid and Biplab Kumar Sarker.
Mehedi’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed the complaint with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza.
The court, after recording statement of the complainant, asked Jatrabari Police Station to file the matter as first information report (FIR).
Mehedi was shot and killed near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Kazla area of Jatrabari on 18 July evening. He was on duty to cover the anti-discrimination student movement in the area.
