At least 30 people were injured in a clash between two parties during a procession on the occasion of Eid-e- Miladunnabi in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Members of the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat and some madrasah students locked into a clash at around 10:30am this morning (16 September).
Kasba Police Station Inspector Md Billar Hossain told TBS, “The leaders and activists of both sides had discussed earlier that they would not get involved in any kind of conflict. Yet, they ended up clashing.
“The army joined with the police to bring the situation under control. Some people have been taken into police custody over the incident.”
Three of the injured were sent to the Comilla Medical College Hospital. Their names could not be known immediately.
According to the police and locals, Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat members prepared for a procession from Kasba upazila area in the morning.
However, under the direction of Hefezat-e-Islam General Secretary of Kasba upazila Gazi Yakub Osmani and local leader Maulana Arif, students of Qawmi Madrasah obstructed the procession.
This led to the clash which was later brought under control as the police and army intervened.
