The Dhaka Customs House has suspended three assistant revenue officers for mistreating a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Mobara Khanam, commissioner of Dhaka Custom House, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
She said the action was taken as part of the government’s pledge to maintain a high standard of passenger service at the airport.
The suspended officials are Md Azizul Haque, Shimul Chowdhury, and Al Amin.
Additionally, an assistant revenue officer and a sub inspector in connection with the incident were closed to the headquarters of the custom house.
According to sources, the officials came under scrutiny after a passenger returning from abroad on 15 September reported being mistreated during baggage inspection. The passenger claimed that their luggage was unnecessarily opened, and some officials picked up chocolate from the bag and consumed it.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) brought the matter to the attention of the customs commissioner.
Following a subsequent probe, the customs commissioner suspended three assistant revenue officers after they were found responsible for the misconduct.
