Environment, Forest, Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan today (17 September) emphasised that natural light should be a top priority in the design of new buildings.
“In the future, buildings must be designed to facilitate natural light,” she said during a seminar held at the Department of Environment organised to mark World Ozone Day.
At the event, she said, “Look at how many lights are on at 12:30 in the afternoon. This reflects a flaw in our planning. We should design buildings so that artificial lighting is not needed during the day. I have informed the ministry that we should avoid such poor designs in the future. Additionally, we must stop using clay-burnt bricks.”
She also highlighted the impact of consumerism on quality of life, climate change, and environmental degradation.
She pointed out that both obesity and climate change pose serious threats to humanity.
“We fail to consider the consequences of our actions. We overlook harmful trends, mistaking them for progress,” she added.
She further noted that the developed world has never delivered on the financial commitments it promised to address climate change.
