Chittagong University appointed Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, a retired professor from the political science department of the university as the new vice-chancellor (VC).
He will serve as the 20th vice-chancellor of the university, confirmed university’s Acting Registrar, KM Noor Ahmed.
Ministry of Education issued a notification today (18 September) confirming his appointment, which was approved by the President and chancellor.
The notification further mentioned that the appointment would be effective from the date of his joining the position. He will receive the same salary and benefits as his previous position before retirement, along with other allowances according to university regulations.
Professor Dr Yeahia Akhter has been teaching in the Political Science Department at Chittagong University since 1982.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a master’s degree in Political Science from Rajshahi University, a second master’s degree in the same field from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia.
