The government has appointed Additional Secretary of Water Supply Department of Local Government Division Md Fazlur Rahman as the new managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA).
The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives issued a circular in this regard yesterday (18 September), bestowing the additional responsibility upon Fazlur alongside his usual duties on a temporary basis.
“Under Section 28(2) of WASA Act, 1996, Fazlur has been given the extra responsibility as the MD of DWASA alongside his regular duty as an additional secretary of the Water Supply Department of Local Government Division,” the circular reads.
Earlier, the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry had cancelled the contract of Taqsem A Khan, the long-serving managing director of Dhaka Wasa.
Taqsem A Khan, however, claimed that he resigned from his position, effective immediately, yesterday.
The development came after he had served as Dhaka Wasa’s managing director since 2009, with his term being extended multiple times, including the most recent extension granted just last August for another three years.
