Bimal Kar, a former member of the Swadhin Bangla football team, passed away today at a city hospital. He was 83.
Kar had been suffering from age-related complications for an extended period and was recently admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). He is survived by his wife, three daughters, one son, and many well-wishers mourning his loss.
During the Liberation War, Kar played for the Swadhin Bangla football team after representing Azad SC. Post-liberation, he joined Victoria SC and remained actively involved in the sport, particularly with Chittagong Mohammedan SC and the Chittagong Referees Association. Due to his declining health, he moved to Dhaka about four years ago to live with his children.
Bimal Kar received a guard of honour at the Bangladesh Football Federation premises. His son, Rajib Kar, informed reporters that the funeral would take place later today at the Rajarbag Kalibari Temple.
