In two separate operations, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested two Jubo League leaders on allegations of “firing on protesters” during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram and Lakshmipur.
Mohammad Faisal, also known as “Killer Faisal”, was arrested yesterday (19 September) from the Goni Colony area at Chawkbazar in the port city.
Faisal, a Jubo League activist and gang leader, was arrested in connection with an attack on a peaceful victory march on 5 August, according to RAB.
According to a press release from RAB-7 media wing, acting on a tip-off, RAB tracked Faisal to his hideout and apprehended him. Later, he was handed over to the Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.
Upon interrogation, Faisal, who has a criminal record involving murder, drugs, and weapons charges, confessed to his involvement in the attack, the release added.
On 5 August, a 14-year-old student, Md Robin, was shot in the leg and suffered severe injuries during a peaceful march at Laldighi Zilla Parishad area.
In response, Robin’s father filed a case with Kotwali Police Station the next day, against 130 individuals, including Faisal, and 200-250 unidentified people.
In another separate operation, RAB yesterday arrested Mohammad Rashed, convener of the Lakshmipur Sadar upazila Jubo League, from Chattogram’s Bolirpara area near the Doublemooring Police Station.
Later, he was handed over to Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station for further legal proceedings, said a RAB press release issued today.
Rashed was arrested in connection with a deadly attack on protesters in Lakshmipur’s Jhumur intersection on 4 August.
During the protest, Rashed and his accomplices allegedly opened fire on protesters, killing a student named Afnan and five others.
