Govt forms 10 vigilance teams to curb dengue outbreak

To prevent the nationwide dengue outbreak, the government has formed 10 vigilance teams to implement the anti-mosquito campaign properly across the country in the current season.

“A total of 10 vigilance teams have been formed to properly implement, coordinate and closely monitor the anti-mosquito drive to combat the outbreak of dengue intensively,” said an official release issued today (23 September).

In an attempt to tackle the dengue situation across the country including the Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation, the decision was taken in an emergency meeting held at the Secretariat this morning with Secretary of Local Government Division (LGD) Abu Hena Morshed Zaman in the chair.

Out of the teams, four will operate in Dhaka South, three in Dhaka North, and one team each has been assigned to other city corporations, including Narayanganj, Gazipur, and Chattogram.

In addition, another team has been formed for the vulnerable areas under Savar, Dohar, Tarabo, Rupganj and other municipalities.

On the other hand, a seven-member committee has also been formed for collecting information and coordinating the programme headed by additional and joint secretaries of LGD under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.

With the coordination of chief executives of the city corporations and municipalities, the teams will visit at least three dengue outbreak areas daily and monitor its prevention programme.

To save the people from the dengue surge, the speakers of the meeting also discussed in detail creating mass awareness, destroying the breeding places of the mosquitoes, conducting cleaning operations and the programme on how to destroy the larva and the mosquitoes.

The report which includes necessary steps related to the drive against the outbreak would have to be submitted regularly to the Information Collection Committee under the LGD.

Then the report containing necessary steps on combating the dengue outbreak and other drive-related information will also be broadcast and displayed through website, mass media and social media.

Additional Secretaries of the LGD M Nazrul Islam, AKM Tariqul Alam, M Fazlur Rahman, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation M Mahmudul Hasan, Administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation AHM Quamruzzaman and other LGD officials, among others, were present in the meeting.
