Rongdhanu Group director Mizan placed on 10-day remand
A Dhaka court has placed Mizanur Rahman Mizan, director of Rongdhanu Group and former vice chairman of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj, into a 10-day remand in connection with four separate cases, including one for murder.
The remand was granted by the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Shamsur Rahman in Narayanganj today (23 September), following Mizan’s appearance in court early in the morning, inspector of the court police Abdur Rashid told the Business Standard.
Meanwhile, a group of drug dealers and criminals from the Chanpara area of Rupganj were seen demonstrating in support of Mizan outside the court. They obstructed several journalists from taking photographs and recording videos during the proceedings.
Speaking on behalf of the plaintiff, lawyer Sakhawat Hossain Khan said, “The court has granted a 10-day remand for Mizan in connection with the murder of school student Roman and three other cases. This includes a 5-day remand for Roman’s murder, 2 days for each of the two cases, and 1 day for the remaining case. We hope that the interrogation will reveal crucial information.”
“It is unacceptable for criminals to show such dominance in the court premises of a free country. We expect law enforcement to take strict action against those involved in these activities” Khan added expressing anger over the presence of criminals supporting Mizan in court.
Mizanur Rahman Mizan was arrested by police on 17 September in connection with a case filed at Khilkhet police station in the capital, accusing him of demanding extortion of Tk5 crore.
