Govt officials directed not to use unauthorised vehicles

The Cabinet Division has directed government officials, who have purchased vehicles through interest-free loans, to refrain from using unauthorised vehicles from other government organisations.

In line with a directive from the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO), the Cabinet Division issued the order today (25 September) to all government departments.

On 2 September, CAO sent letters to the secretaries of all ministries and divisions, instructing them to stop government employees from using unauthorised government vehicles.

The letter mentioned that the government had become aware of multiple instances where several government employees were using official vehicles in violation of the existing rules and regulations.

In some cases, ministries or departments were unjustifiably requisitioning vehicles from various offices, departments, organisations, banks, and insurance companies without a valid reason, states the letter.

Moreover, it added that some officials who have taken vehicle loans under the ‘Interest-free Loans and Vehicle Service Monetization Policy for Entitled Government Officials-2020’ are using vehicles of various government organisations in an unethical and unlawful manner, even after receiving the entire maintenance cost of Tk50,000.

However, Clause 17 of the policy contains clear instructions to prevent such irregularities, the letter added.

The letter further stated that the unauthorised use of vehicles by some employees was causing disorder and financial waste in public administration.

On the other hand, it was also questioning morality and severely damaging the image of government employees in society.
