Another accused in Lt Tanjim murder case arrested

Joint forces have arrested one more accused in a case filed over the killing of army officer Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar in Chakria of Cox’s Bazar.
The accused, Md Sadek, 41, was arrested from Fasiakhali area of Fasiakhali union of Chakaria upazila yesterday (26 September), confirmed Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-15 Cox’s Bazar Battalion and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury.
Sadek, who is accused number 11 in the case, has confessed to the RAB during preliminary interrogation about his involvement in the killing of the army officer, Abul Kalam said.
Six people, including the main accused Babul alias Babul Dakat, accused in the case were arrested on the day of the incident.
Abul Kalam also said that police, RAB and army personnel have continued joint operations to arrest the accused in the case filed in the murder of army officer Lt Tanjim Sarwar.
Members of the law enforcement agencies got information that a suspect was staying in Fasiakhali area of Chakaria upazila yesterday morning (26 September). Later a team of joint forces raided there.
“On reaching the spot, Md Sadek tried to flee after realising the presence of law enforcement officers but was later arrested,” Abul Kalam added.
The RAB official said that the arrested accused has been handed over to Chakaria police station.
Tanjim Sarwar was stabbed to death during a raid to recover illegal firearms in Chakaria in the early hours on Tuesday (24 September).
Tanjim was leading the raid during the incident that occurred around 3:30am in Maizpara village, Dulahazara union, according to Chakaria police and army.
During the operation, a group of 7-8 armed robbers tried to flee after spotting the army patrol team. When Tanjim chased some of the robbers, they attacked the army lieutenant, stabbing him in the neck, resulting in severe injuries and heavy bleeding, reads a statement issued by the Bangladesh Army on Tuesday.
