The government has withdrawn the names of teachers and staff of government universities from the proposed ‘Prottoy’ scheme and cancelled the newly introduced pension system altogether.
After attending a meeting with a group of professionals under the banner of Peshajibi Shomonnoy Parishad, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the summary of the withdrawal today (3 August).
Besides cancelling the Prottoy scheme, the PM also called on the quota protesters to refrain from violence and engage in dialog with the government.
“The door of Ganobhaban is open. I want to sit with the quota protesters and hear their words. I don’t want any more violence,” the PM was quoted as saying.
