Minority rights group demands forming commission to probe recent attacks

The Minority Rights Movement has called for the establishment of a commission to investigate the recent surge in attacks targeting Hindu homes and places of worship nationwide.
A six-member delegation of the rights group met with Chief Advisor Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and presented their eight-point demands.
Their demands include the prosecution of attacks on minority communities’ property and ensuring their protection.
In response, Dr Yunus assured them that his government is committed to safeguarding the human rights of every citizen, including religious minorities.
He mentioned that his government has already implemented several measures to protect minorities from attacks and violence.
Dr Yunus also noted that the police force has regained control over law and order, and the situation is beginning to normalise across the country.
The meeting was attended by Nahid Islam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT, as well as Asif Mahmud, adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The two advisers also assured the minority rights group of their full commitment to addressing all demands.
