Legal notice sent to remove Shakib from national team and bring him back to Bangladesh
Just two days ago, Shakib Al Hasan’s name surfaced in a murder case. Now, a Supreme Court lawyer has sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) demanding that the star cricketer be removed from the national team and brought back to the country.
The notice states that in the interest of a fair investigation into the murder case, Shakib should be recalled to Bangladesh.
Attempts to reach several BCB officials for comment were unsuccessful. However, some directors, including Faruque Ahmed, held a meeting at the BCB office this afternoon. Although Shakib’s situation was discussed, no one has yet made any public comments on the matter.
The lawyer who sent the notice told reporters that since a criminal case has been filed against Shakib, he cannot remain in the national cricket team according to ICC regulations. He should be immediately removed from the team and brought back to the country for the sake of the investigation.
A murder case was filed against cricketer Shakib for allegedly ordering the killing of garment worker Rubel during an anti-discrimination student movement.
The case was filed at the Adabor Police Station in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on 22 August by Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam. Shakib has been named as the 28th accused in the case.
Among the other accused in the Rubel murder case are former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and 156 others. Additionally, 500 unidentified individuals have been accused in the case.
