The country’s met offices have warned of heavy rainfall in the southeastern and eastern regions over the next 24 hours.

In their weather forecasts published this morning (25 August), the met offices said that water levels in Sangu, Matamuhuri, Karnaphuli and Halda Rivers in Chattogram region might rise further due to heavy rains.

“The next 24 hours might bring medium to heavy rainfall in the eastern parts of the country. However, water levels in the Gumti River and flood situation in Cumilla and nearby districts might remain stable,” the forecast said.

The forecast added that water continued to recede from localities in the northeastern, eastern and southeastern regions throughout Sunday (25 August).

“Water has been receding as there hasn’t been any rainfall in Cumilla, Feni, Brahmanbaria and nearby plains of India’s Tripura. As a result, the flood situation has been improving in the region,” the forecast added.

Besides the Chattogram region, water levels in the rivers in Sylhet and northern parts of Bangladesh has remained stable too, according to the forecast.
